Medical Peels renew your complexion – diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and roughness.

A medical peel is a non-invasive procedure that creates a controlled reaction on your skin’s surface to gently and effectively accelerate skin exfoliation and stimulate new collagen production. Thus, revealing healthy, new, younger looking skin.

What are the benefits of a medical peel?

Chemical peels are a great way to change your skin’s appearance without causing significant downtime. You can brighten your skin and enhance its glow. Medical peels can also improve skin texture, diminish sun damage and acne scarring. Additionally, medical peels stimulate new collagen. Thus, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

What should I expect during treatment?

The complete treatment takes about 45 minutes which includes ample time to address any questions you may have, and discuss after care.

First, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed with a special cleanser that disrupts the oils and eliminates interference with the enzymes of the peel. Then the actual application process will take place which occurs in steps based on your skin’s response.

Tolerance to the procedure varies from patient-to-patient. Tingling or burning sensation is common and expected. A handheld fan can be used to minimize discomfort, which generally subsides in a few minutes.

Your skin will be slightly pink/brown. A special topical cream will be applied and you will be on your way.

Which peel is right for me?

During the initial consultation, our phycisin will discuss your aesthetic goals and evaluate your skin condition. The doctor will then recommend the appropriate peel regimen based on your indivdiual needs.

At Total Illusion Laser Aesthetic MedSpa, we use three different levels of SkinMedica® peels

  • Illuminize Peel®
  • Vitalize Peel®
  • Rejuvenize Peel

FAQ

Who can benefit from Medical Peels?

Peels address the visible skin imperfections that result from skin aging and sun exposure, such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture. Peels also address skin tone unevenness that can be caused by acne scarring or pigmentary changes.

Can peels be performed on dark skin?

Yes. However, patients with deeply pigmented skin color will receive Vitalize Peel® first, and after they establish tolerability to Vitalize Peel®, they can receive Rejuvenize Peel™.

How do I prepare for a medical peel?

Any procedures or products that may increase skin sensitivity should be avoided before your treatment. Our physician will provide you with additional details depending on the type of peel.

How will my skin appear immediately after a peel?

After an Illuminize Peel® most patients leave the office looking healthy and fresh. Mild redness or discoloration may occur and can be covered with makeup. Vitalize Peel® and Rejuvenize Peel™ can leave a yellowish tinge on the skin which is expected to last no longer than 2-3 hours.

Mild redness is expected after any type of chemical peel procedure. The extent of redness varies from patient to patient. The face may appear redder than usual for some time after the treatment and completely resolves after the peeling is complete. With Illuminize Peel® patients should not expect to see visible peeling due to the superficial nature of this peel.

Will I peel after receiving a treatment?

The degree of peeling may vary depending on the individual’s skin condition and degree of the damage. Peeling can range from mild flaking to peeling in sheets. Regardless of the amount of peeling, the skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, which will result in the following benefits: improvement in the appearance of skin tone and texture, smoothness of fine lines and wrinkles.  No visible peeling is expected with Illuminize Peel® due to the superficial nature of this peel.

How should I take care of my skin during the peeling?

Our physician will provide you with in depth after care instructions.

How should I protect my skin after the peel?

Since the new skin is more susceptible to sunburn, extra precautions should be taken to limit sun exposure for at least one week after the peel. It is imperative to use a broad spectrum sunblock product with an SPF of 30 or higher.  We recommend our  opens in a new windowHydroDefense SPF 40.

After the peel treatment, when can I resume my regular skin care regimen?

You can resume the use of your regular treatment products after you have completely finished peeling.

What results can I expect?

After treatment patients will notice an improvement of overall skin condition, diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, smoothness of skin texture and more even skin color and improved skin clarity.

How many treatments are required?

Multiple treatments may be required to achieve desired results. The number of treatments is based on initial level of skin damage, and can vary from 3 to 6. The effect of the peels is cumulative and results are more favorable when the peels are used in conjunction with a daily product regimen.

How often can peels be repeated?

Illuminize Peel® can be repeated every 2-3 weeks. Vitalize Peel® treatments can be repeated every 3-4 weeks.  Rejuvenize Peel™ can be repeated every 4-6 weeks.

How do I maintain optimal results after the procedure?

Illuminize Peel®, Vitalize Peel® and Rejuvenize Peel™ are part of a skin management program that includes home-use products. To maintain optimal results achieved with these treatments, patients should use a daily skin care regimen recommended by our physician. Also, combining with a DiamondGlow® treatment will help optimize results.

Can pregnant or lactating women receive a medical peel?

SkinMedica® peels should not be performed on pregnant or lactating women.
