What is medical microneedling?

Medical microneedling, also known as percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a non-surgical treatment that uses very fine, short, sterile needles to create tiny punctures in your skin. Thus, prompting a natural, collagen-stimulating healing process that corrects flaws and improves skin quality.

  • First, your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be placed on the treatment area. After about 20 minutes, your skin will be cleansed again, removing the numbing cream. The treatment device will be applied to your skin. You will have some minor redness and pinpoint bleeding. After treatment, a proprietary topical solution will be applied to your skin and you will be on your way.

  • Microneedling creates hundreds to thousands of tiny punctures into the skin – causing a controlled injury. Consequently, these microinjuries stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process, which in turn causes new collagen to form.

  • Microneedling using FDA approved, medical devices under the supervision of a physician has been clinically proven to treat acne scars and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Therefore, when performed in a series and combined with proper skin care products, results can be optimized and maintained for years.

  • The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately after the treatment, similar to a mild or moderate sunburn. Additionally, you can experience dryness and itching, Peeling, discomfort and tenderness have been reported but are less common. Many patients return to work the next day.

  • During your consultation with our physician, an individualized treatment plan will be developed for you to achieve optimal results based on your aesthetic goals. A series of treatments, typically four, spaced one month apart are recommended.

  • It is a comfortable procedure. A prescription strength topical numbing cream is applied to the skin. Most patients report only feeling a slight vibration of the instrument during the procedure.

  • To maintain optimal results achieved with these treatments, patients should use a daily skin care regimen recommended by our physician.
